Government hospitals in Delhi aren’t giving due care and concern to the bodies says Supreme Court.

New Delhi: Today a bench of three judges of Supreme Court heard a case regarding lapses in proper treatment of Corona Virus (Covid-19) patients and dignified handling of bodies after taking suo motu cognisance of the matter.

Justice Shah said,’Dead bodies are being put like this, what is this going on?’ He observed, “If dead bodies are being treated like this, bodies are being found in garbage… People are being treated worse than animals”.

The Supreme Court also said that the government hospitals in Delhi are not giving due care and concern to the bodies of Corona Virus (Covid-19) patients. The family of patients who died are not even informed about the death of patients. The Supreme Court also that in some cases, families have not been able to attend the last rites too.

The Supreme Court issued notices to state governments including that of Delhi and also Delhi’s Lok Nayak Jai Prakash Narayan Hospital seeking reply on the matter. The Supreme Court asked Chief Secretaries of States to look into the situation of patient management system and submit appropriate status report.

The Supreme court posts the matter for hearing on Wednesday.
